The beauty of this place might be more than I can hold And yet I think I'd like to try and stay here til I'm old This land holds prophecies untold They can't be bought or sold And the river winds, winds, winds its way through time as the cliff-dwelling swallows build their homes with silt and clay and I hope you find, find, find some peace of mind when the stars call you home one day How many breaths how many hours before the sun goes down If you believed in higher powers it's now they might be found Ancestors gather round They speak without a sound And the river winds, winds, winds its way through time as the cliff-dwelling swallows build their homes with silt and clay and I hope you find, find, find some peace of mind when the stars call you home one day And when the time comes to lay your body down may you journey on with ease And when the time comes to say one last farewell we'll hold you close and let you free as the river winds The story of the land we tend is longer than we know And blessed are all those who defend the waters as they flow That's how our love can grow beyond when we must go And the river winds, winds, winds its way through time as a thick summer storm cloud comes to fill the sky with rain and I hope you find, find, find some peace of mind when the stars call you home one day And when the time comes to lay my body down may I journey on with ease And when the time comes to say one last farewell please hold me close and let me free just as the waters long to be And the river winds, winds, winds its way through time as the cliff-dwelling swallows build their homes with silt and clay and I hope you find, find, find some peace of mind when the stars call you home one day when the stars call me home one day yes we're all going home one day

The Grove 04:49
Wake up the snow is now melting outside Walk out with courage there’s nothing to hide And follow the steps from your dreams last night Oh what a sight When we gathered in the grove Watch now a dear one is dancing through air Meanwhile another is sitting in prayer Oh loves remind me please to go slow And trust that we’ll know When it’s time to head to the grove Take your time leaving home Please be easy on yourself We’ll be fine once we know There’s no turning back Bring the love that you’ve learned From these many moons of unknowns And keep turning your heart toward the dream Behold the starlings flash forms in the sky Be held in wonder as light meets the eye One day these lots will be full of trees Just bring the seeds And we’ll all find fruit at the grove Listen the young ones have something to say Drop all the pretense that gets in the way And don’t horde the medicine that you hold You’re never to old To make your way to the grove Take your time leaving home Please be easy on yourself We’ll be fine once we know There’s no turning back Bring the love that you’ve learned From these many moons of unknowns And keep turning your heart toward the dream Take your time leaving home Please be easy on yourself We’ll be fine once we know There’s no turning back Bring the love that you’ve learned From these many moons of unknowns And keep turning your heart toward the dream Yes keep dreaming your way toward the scene Yes keep seeing the vision of what’s yet to come When we gather round in the grove When we gather round In the grove

From this place From this place From this place Anything could happen now And they say This is where you kneel and bow Don’t ask me how All I know Is this yearning to be true To heed the call For what’s mine to do And I’ll go Anywhere you ask me to Yes here I am Please pass on through From this place The future is a memory From this place I feel the dream inside of me Of what will be And I know That the past is yet to come I’ll run to catch Those rays of sun And although It seems the work has just begun We’ll stop to rest As if were done Return again Return again And no matter where you’ve gone There’s a place for you To come home to Return again Return again And no matter where you’ve gone There’s a place for you To come home to From this place From this place From this place Everything is happening Or so it seems And they say This is where the songbirds sing And grow their wings All I know Is this yearning to be true To heed the call For what’s mine to do And I’ll go Anywhere you ask me to Yes here I am Please pass on through Yes here I am Please pass on through Return again Return again And no matter where you’ve gone There’s a place for you To come home to Yes here I am Please pass on through This place This place This place

Puzzled 03:40
It is good to be puzzled Let it be so For the shape of the puzzle Is not ours to know And as much as we’d love To arrange it just so That’s the job of the puzzlemaster Not us below So if you really want To be in the flow Let yourself get puzzled And see where you go —melody— If you find that you’re empty With nothing inside Then you’ll find yourself with plenty Of nothing to hide And now freed from the burden Of all that you’ve tried There’s a room mystery can enter And spirit abide Yes if you really want To go for a ride Let yourself get empty And see what’s untied —melody— When you’re lost in the forest No path in sight Could be that’s when you notice That something’s gone right Or beyond right and wrong Toward a deeper delight On a path only made by walking Into the night Yes if you really want To rise and take flight Let yourself get lost Til the darkness burns bright —melody—

May you feel the golden light inside on this and every day May this wisdom coursing through your bones keep opening the way May you know that you are deeply loved, that cannot be undone May your soul grow ever freer in this spin around the sun We give thanks for your life, for the gift you are by being you They say the stars are celebrating day and night And the mountains and the rivers they are too Yes I know it must be true May you always walk with courage even when the path’s unknown May the angels keep you company when you’re far from home May you know that you’re a blessing unto each and every one May your soul grow ever freer in this spin around the sun We give thanks for your life, for the gift you are by being you They say the stars are celebrating day and night And the mountains and the rivers they are too Yes I know it must be true May the memory of this moment imprint deep upon your heart May the days that shine with goodness never be to far apart May you know joy in the mornings, feel the way we’re joined as one May your soul grow ever freer in this spin around the sun We give thanks for your life, for the gift you are by being you They say the stars are celebrating day and night And the mountains and the rivers they are too Yes I know it must be true We give thanks for your life, for the gift you are by being you They say the stars are celebrating day and night And the mountains and the rivers they are too Yes I know it must be true ‘Cause they asked me to sing this song for you

Riverbanks 04:59
Come and listen closely by the riverbank Watch the glistening waters roll on by As a breath of wind sends ripples flowing Ancient knowing deep inside Up above a holy roving caravan Feathered wings and knowing ways If you stayed here for eternity You might learn to live a day ~wordless melody~ There’s a portal open by the riverbank Takes you straight from here to here As the cedar burnt before the altar Makes your words of prayer heard clear Touch the skin of earth and make an offering Let the leaves dance shadows on your hand If you stayed here for eternity You might start to understand ~wordless melody~ In a sea of clouds there floats a waxing moon Star of endless fables found and told Can you hear those stories shining back at you All those memories she holds There’s a myth now weaving in the midst of us We’re the silken threads and time’s the loom You don’t need to stay here for eternity For the infinite to move through you ~wordless melody~

We Were Here 05:04
Four and a half billion years ago A cloud of dust became our home Waiting for something new called life to dwell And you and I we're made of starstuff More ancient than our words can touch Here now to learn those secrets hearts can tell Hold on my dear Though winds be strong you need not fear As long as you’re here The dawn will come So you want to make a holy song And praise the day before it’s gone Catch and release the life that passes through With you poems and your prints and your new garage door Ten thousand hints that you’re still looking for more Well the good news is it’s looking for you Hold on my dear Though winds be strong you need not fear As long as you’re here We’re here with you They say the best time to plant a tree was Twenty years ago But the second best time is today And we don’t need to etch our names in Great tree trunks or slabs of stone For the future ones to hear us say We were here We loved here We healed here x4 Hello my former self I’ve come to take you off of the shelf Greet you with kindness hear your voice again The life you’ve lived and the one you’re living Gave you the notes to make your song A gift that keeps on giving all night long Hold on my dear Though winds be strong you need not fear As long as you’re here The dawn will come Hold on my dear Though winds be strong you need not fear As long as you’re here We’re here with you We are here We love here We heal here x4

On the hillside The grasses start to glow Each one waits the setting sun Since the people left The paths are overgrown One chapter's done and one's begun And as I stumble round asking for a clue It seems you know just what you need to do In the blue room of this castle on a cloud You find the words to change the story now And we hear the mountain say Drop your shoes and walk your way Even when we're far from home We do not walk alone In the morning I greet you with a bow And the day greets us with dew On the road again And I still wonder how The journey led me here with you And as we speed along through volcanic fields The hawks do keep you company If we get to nowhere then we've gone too far But where we're headed yet I cannot see And it seems a world away But it was only yesterday Now I'm back here on my own But we do not walk alone oh-woah-oh-oh... And as I stumble round asking for a clue It seems you know just what you need to do In the blue room of this castle on a cloud You find the words to change the story now And we hear the mountain say Drop your shoes and walk your way Even when we're far from home We do not walk alone And it seems a world away But it was only yesterday Now I'm back here on my own But we do not walk alone

Witness to the rupture Shaky ground giving way You can’t avoid the void Nowhere else to run to Step on in steep descent Feel for something to hold onto Old box There are hundreds of them Coated in thick forget They were here the whole time Just out of line of sight Please open Fumble through dust Please open Click back latch Please open Mystics of the rupture Holy ground stop and pray You can’t avoid the void This is your direction Step on in steep descent Feel for something to hold onto Old box There are hundreds of them Coated in thick forget They were here the whole time Just out of line of sight Please open Fumble through dust Please open Click back latch Please open Stories tumble out Catch the tale of the beginning after the end It all comes out Tell the tale of the beginning after the end When all seems done Write the tale of the beginning after the end x3

Time is Now 02:02
Friend, I’ve heard you say There’s another way And I believe it’s true So what are we to do To make a home From all we’ve known With ample room For what we don’t You’re more than you For you include An ancient dream awakening Friend, the time is now Ancestors show us how To make the next right move When there’s nothing left to lose This same old place My saving grace Was here before And after I’m gone This golden hour In all its power Moves through us now But not for long Speak your truth Speak your truth Speak your truth Speak your truth

about

Songwriting became an unexpected anchor for me this past year: a practice for directing attention amidst turbulence, for returning to wonder and reverence amidst uncertainty, for stumbling toward mystery, even—or especially—when the path is hard to come by.

This album, my first, is an intimate sharing of some of the melodies and words that emerged from inner and outer landscapes during these strange, in-between times. My hope is that you’ll find at least one song in here that resonates with the wonderings and wanderings of your own heart. I invite you to take your time exploring them.

This is not a glossy production. Recorded without preciousness from home, it has a kind of pandemic sparseness to it: just my voice(s) and a baritone ukulele. I hope to one day collaborate with other musicians.

If you choose to download the digital album, half of the sale proceeds will be donated to grassroots Indigenous-led efforts where I live, via the Honor Native Land Tax; the other half will support the next musical project.

Thanks for listening! I hope you enjoy.
